The most important and urgent reform of the Catholic Diocese of Sambalpur is “Education”. Its endeavor is to relate it to the real life, needs and aspirations of the people and thereby make it a powerful instrument of social, economic and cultural transformation necessary for the realization of the dioceses’ goals and eventually for the attainment of larger National goals. Therefore, education should be developed so as to increase productivity, achieve social and nation integration, to accelerate the process of modernization and cultivate social, moral and spiritual values. St. John’s School, Talcher aims at developing the students in totality to make him/her a perfect creation of God. Top priority is given to character formation on sound moral principles. Students leaving the school should be characterized by a sense of responsibility, deep faith in God, love and respect for all and for the country. A strong individual with fully developed mind, heart, body and character. They should be persons of competence, conscience, conviction, compassion and commitment. They should show this by being actively concerned about national development in the true spirit of freedom, equality, justice and peace. They are to be distinguished characters, respectful and noble.

John was the son of Zebedee, a Galilean fisherman and Salome his mother. John & his brother James were among the
first disciples called by Jesus. He was chosen as one of the twelve apostles by our Lord. When called by Jesus
they followed him, leaving the boat & their old father. St. John was the youngest of the Apostles, 'the loved disciple',
the one whom Jesus loved & only one of the 12 who remained with his master all the way to the foot of the cross.
He is with the risen Jesus in the upper room & on the shore of the lake Tiberius. He was the last to write a Gospel & the last
of the apostles to die as an old man, still the bishop of Ephesus, around the year 100 A.D. St. John had a special insight
into the mystery of the incarnation. He was the disciple to whom Jesus entrusted his mother at the foot of the cross.
John took Marry, the mother of Jesus, into his care as the last legacy of Jesus,"Behold Your mother". Thus, teaching us
all to look to Mary as our mother & the mother of church.
